The 5-year structural guarantee
Every piece is covered for 5 years from the date of delivery against structural failure in ordinary domestic use. If a frame, rail, joint, weld, slat, drawer runner or bracket fails, we send the part, or the whole piece if the part cannot be separated, and pay the carriage both ways. A photograph and your order reference by email is the whole process. The guarantee follows the piece, so it still applies if you pass it on.
| Covered | Not covered |
| A rail, leg or panel that splits or breaks | Dents, scratches and water marks: the material living in your house |
| A joint, tenon or bolt insert that loosens and will not re-tighten | The oil wearing thin, oak darkening, pine resin, seasonal hairlines at joints |
| A weld that cracks or a steel part that bends under its stated load | Chips and fingerprints in powder coat |
| Slats that break, drawer runners that fail, brackets that give | Use beyond the stated load, outdoors, or commercially (rentals, offices, shops) |
| Damage in transit, at any time, on a photograph | A wall-hung piece fixed to a wall other than as instructed, or a tethered piece left untethered |
The guarantee is offered on top of your statutory rights and does not replace them. Faults in materials or workmanship are handled under the two-year legal conformity period regardless of this guarantee.
Re-oiling, in twenty minutes
Nothing here is lacquered, which means everything can be renewed on the kitchen floor. The test is water: when a drop stops beading and starts to soak in, the surface wants oil.
- Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and let it dry. If there are marks, sand lightly along the grain with 240-grit paper.
- Wipe on a thin coat of hardwax oil with a lint-free rag. Thin. A thick coat stays tacky for a week.
- After fifteen minutes, wipe off everything that has not soaked in, with a clean rag.
- Leave it overnight before putting anything on it. Lay the oily rags flat outdoors to dry before binning them; bunched oily rags can self-heat.
Oak wants this every two or three years; ash and pine yearly on surfaces that get touched; a desk top or a tray table sooner. A 250 ml tin does a bed twice.
Oak
- Darkens a shade in its first year, faster in sun. A piece moved from the window will show a paler patch where a lamp stood; it evens out in months.
- Water rings sand out with 240-grit and a wipe of oil. Black marks from a wet metal object need 180-grit and oxalic acid; email first.
- Re-tighten the bed bolts after the first month and after any move. A quarter turn is usually all it takes, and it is the difference between a silent bed and a creaking one.
- Keep solid wood a hand's width from a radiator. Dry heat shrinks it across the grain and opens joints.
Ash
- Paler than oak and quicker to mark: a wet glass left for an hour leaves a ring. Coasters on the nightstands.
- Takes colour from anything coloured left wet on it. Wipe at once.
- The white-oiled finish yellows very slightly over years in direct sun; turning the piece now and then evens it.
Pine
- Soft. Dents from a dropped phone or a vacuum cleaner are normal. Most steam out: a damp cloth over the dent and a hot iron on the cloth for ten seconds swells the fibres back.
- Knots can weep a bead of resin in the first warm season, especially near a radiator. A cloth with a drop of white spirit lifts it; it stops after a year.
- The white-oiled finish hides both dents and knots better than natural and is the one to choose if that will bother you.
Powder-coated steel
- Wipe with a damp cloth. No abrasives, no solvents: they dull the matt coat.
- Charcoal shows fingerprints until it has been wiped a few times and the surface has settled. Moss and chalk hide them.
- A hard knock chips any powder coat to bare grey steel. The chip does not spread. Indoors it will not rust; in a bathroom, seal it with a dab of clear nail varnish.
- Welded pieces have nothing to tighten. Bolted steel (the bed, the shelving) gets the same quarter turn after the first month as the wood does.
Wall-hung and tethered pieces
- Shelves, rails and the headboard come with fixings for masonry and for plasterboard. The load on the page is the lower, plasterboard figure unless it says otherwise. The wall desk is masonry only.
- The leaning mirror and the steel shelving unit must be tethered to the wall with the parts supplied. They are not stable free-standing and the guarantee does not cover a fall from an untethered piece.
- Check tether and bracket screws yearly. Plasterboard fixings loosen slowly under a changing load.
Mirrors
Glass cleaner on the glass only, sprayed onto the cloth rather than the mirror; it lifts the oil from a wooden frame. The glass is safety-backed with a film, so if it breaks the pieces hold together on the film rather than fall.
Making a claim
- Email hello@noonandnest.com with a photograph of the failed part and your order reference, or the approximate date and the buyer's name if you have lost it.
- We reply within two working days, usually the same day, confirming the part and when it ships.
- Parts ship within five working days. If the whole piece has to come back, we book the collection; you do not pack it to a standard, just safely.
