A drawer with a routed finger pull instead of a handle, and an open bay beneath it. The drawer slides on waxed oak runners, which are quieter than steel and will outlast them, but which swell slightly in a humid week and need a push until the air dries out.
The top is 52 cm from the floor, 4 cm taller than the ash nightstand, to suit a deeper mattress. The back is a solid oak panel, so it can stand away from the wall or in the middle of a room.
