A board of solid oak, 4 cm thick and 20 cm deep, drilled to slide onto two steel rods that bolt to the wall. Nothing shows but the board. Three lengths cover most walls: 60 cm above a nightstand, 90 cm above a desk, 120 cm above a bed.
Solid wood under load sags, slowly. At 120 cm with a full row of hardbacks, expect 2 to 3 mm of bow after a year; it is visible if you look along it and invisible otherwise. All three lengths are one price: the brackets and the fixing kit are most of the cost, and they are the same whatever the length.
