A 9 cm deep ledge with a lip along the front, screwed to the wall through two countersunk holes. Frames lean against the wall and the lip stops them sliding; they can be moved, overlapped and swapped without a single new hole.
Pine keeps it cheap and light. It also means a frame dragged along the lip leaves a score mark, so lift rather than slide. The white-oiled version hides the knots and the marks better.
