For a room where every centimetre counts: the frame adds 2 cm to the mattress width and 4 cm to its length. The headboard is three nested rectangles of the same tube, welded, and the whole thing is powder-coated in one of three colours.
Steel does not creak the way a wooden frame can after a few years, and it does not mind a damp room. It does mark. Charcoal shows fingerprints until it has been wiped a few times, and a knock from a bed frame on the stairs can chip the coating down to grey steel; a chip does not spread, but it cannot be touched up invisibly.
